A a new program for the Friends of the Dobbs Ferry Library – Mary’s Yarns. We are building a community of Knitters, Crocheters, and Crafters. We will knit or crochet as we get to know each other and share patterns.

In the meantime, the new owner, a police detective, and friends try their hardest to exorcise the bike and stay alive.”

Have you read Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Did you know you too can create stories like his? Join Ms.Gina and local high-schooler Franka Pessin, to learn about all the different ways you can create your own diary, such as drawing, comic/graphic novel style, journaling and scrapbooking. Many people find that writing diaries is therapeutic and it’s safe to say that the pandemic has impacted our mental health. Let’s document both historic events and our own emotions!

Diary entries may also be featured (with permission) on our @dfplkids Instagram account!

Our annual ecology program is back — virtually! Join librarians Ned and Gina to discover what owls eat and learn how to reconstruct a skeleton by searching through your very own owl pellet to find animal bones.

RiverArts, in conjunction with the Hastings and the Dobbs Ferry Public Libraries, is hosting a discussion of the 1933 film The Emperor Jones, based on the play by Eugene O’Neill and starring Paul Robeson.  You are encouraged to watch the film and two short documentaries prior to the discussion – link for the Race Film / Race Matters website and the movie itself here.

Register at RiverArts.org to participate in a discussion about this movie, moderated by Tanya McKinnon, Dobbs Ferry resident, literary agent and former RiverArts Board member.

This program is part of a Humanities New York funded project: Race Films/Race Matters. The film contains some stereotypical dialect, exoticising depictions of the inhabitants of a Caribbean island, use of the n-word – but also includes a bravura performance by Paul Robeson.

Children read one-on-one with Chubba, a specially trained Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.) and his handler, Hastings resident Deirdre Drohan Forbes. Children will select a book to read to Chubba before the program begins, and they will spend 10 – 15 minutes reading aloud. They are also welcome to ask questions about Chubba, a 5-year-old rescued pit bull who loves children, other dogs, and reading.
