Meet the 3D Printer

Lulzbot Taz 6 : Meet the newest addition to the Dobbs Ferry Public Library

What is this new piece of hardware?
This is our 3D printer, a Lulzbot Taz 6.

What does it print with?

The printer uses a type of plastic filament called PolyLactic Acid or PLA. PLA is biodegradable plastic made from either corstarch or sugarcane. You may have encountered PLA in your plastic wrap or water bottle.

How does it work?
The Lulzbot heats the plastic to 230° C, which then comes out of the nozzle layer by layer until the print is completed.

How long does it take to print something?
Print times vary based on object size, how detailed it is and if it is solid or hollow. Some print jobs take a few minutes, some take hours.

Is the printer available for public use?
The printer will officially be available for public use on July 7. Your welcome to come by the Library in the meantime, there is almost always something printing.
